Where does Ocean Lava Montenegro take place?

In Southeastern Europe, on Adriatic Sea in the secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor, old town of Kotor is located.

What is the withdraw/refund policy?

In case the athlete cancels his/her registration, for any purpose 2 months before the race start, the athlete will be refunded 50% of the amount of the registration fee. After this date there will be no refund or the possibility of transferring the registration to another competitor, no exceptions will be accepted.

What are the rules for penalty enforcement?

The rules that must be followed in order to have a fair competition are:

  • The “drafting zone” is 10 meters, counting from the front wheel of the competitors bicycle

  • It is prohibited to cycle beside one another and the distance enforced is 1.5 meters from each other.

  • 20 seconds is the amount of time an athlete has to pass another.

  • Once penalized, the athlete must stop for 5 minutes in the Penalty Box.

  • In case the athlete does not accomplish the Penalty received, he/she will be automatically disqualified.

There are 20 age groups for the half-distance race.

I didn’t turn in my chip after the race. Where do I return it so I won’t be charged the “lost chip” fee?

If the athlete does not return the chip during the bike check out, he must name the chip and return it to the Information Center.

Will spectators be able to take their cars on course to follow athletes?

The organization does not allow that the spectator follow the athletes in his/her car at any time during the race since traffic will be closed.

What is the EXPO, where is it located and who will be participating?

The EXPO is where the sponsors and brands will have their stands set up to sell equipment and apparel. Also, where will the pre-race mechanical service be located. Localized near the transition zone.

Will Ocean Lava Montenegro have a Pasta Dinner before the race?

Yes, there will be an opening ceremony with a welcome dinner on Friday, and the address will be published at the athlete check-in. If the athlete wishes to bring along friends or family, he must purchase the Pasta Dinner ticket ahead of time or during the dinner.

What is the Ocean Lava Montenegro award ceremony?

The award ceremony will be held on Sunday after the race, and we will announce all the winners and give them medals, trophies, and gifts from sponsors. The award ceremony will be held at the finish line and is open to everyone; no ticket purchase is necessary.

How does the swim start?

There will be one swim start from the beach.

What are the wetsuit restrictions?

The wetsuit will be allowed in the following situations:

  • In case the water temperature is not above 27 °C

The water temperature will be taken on race meeting day and once again one hour before the start to determine if wetsuits will be allowed or not.

What is the weather typically like on race day?

May is the middle of the spring season. Expect warm and dry weather. Winds blow normally from the north, and their strengths range from weak to moderate. The sea temperature is between 17 and 20 °C.

What are the course cut-off times?

The half-distance race will be at the following CUT-off times:
SWIM cut-off time will be at 1h10min.
CYCLING maximum time will be 5h including the swim start time
The race limit is 8h.
The athlete that does not complete these times will be automatically disqualified and will have to leave the race course or take the pick-up van.

The Olympic distance race will be at the following CUT-off times:
SWIM cut-off time will be at 1h.
CYCLING maximum time will be 3:30h including the swim start time
The race limit is 5h.

What nutrition will be available throughout the course?

During the bike course, the athlete will be provided with water and electrolytes. On the run course, the athlete will be given water, cola, electrolytes, chocolate, and fruit. After the finish line, there will be complete catering with many different refueling options for the finishers.

Are disc wheels allowed?

Yes, competition wheels of any kind are allowed, but we do not take responsibility for any issue regarding their usage.

Can family members and/or friends check me in and pick up my race packet?

In order to check in and pick up your race packet, the athlete must present a document with a photo, such as a driver’s license or passport, and sign the medical records. The athlete must also agree with the race rules and sign the Terms of Responsibility.
In case the athlete is not able to pick up his/her race kit personally, he must inform the organization through email in order to indicate someone who will be responsible for picking up his/her kit. This person must present a notarized document. Remembering that, he/she will not be able to do the bike check-in for this athlete.

Will friends/family members be allowed to cross the finish line with the athlete?

Yes, this is an epic finish line photo shot, and we would not miss this moment for anything.

Are friends/family members allowed in the Medical Tent?

No, family members and friends can only cross the finish line for the photo shot, once this is done, they will have to exit the area where the athlete is headed.
